UPDATE March 22nd, 2020: At Beavercreek Endodontics, our highest priority has always been the health and safety of our patients and staff. As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to evolve, we have a unique responsibility to care for those who need urgent treatment while minimizing the risk of transmission of the virus.

Unfortunately at this time, there is no way to screen patients for COVID-19 who are asymptomatic or who have not yet developed symptoms but are contagious. Our office has always adhered to rigorous disinfecting and sterilizing procedures beyond what is recommended by the CDC. Due to the proximity of our staff to the patients and the aerosols produced during treatment, we believe that there is no way to effectively prevent the spread of this virus in a dental environment- even in patients who appear healthy. While a majority of us will be mildly affected, our goal is to slow the spread of the virus to reduce the strain on medical facilities so that our vulnerable populations are able to receive the life-saving care that they deserve. All over the world, social distancing has been the best deterrent to the spread of COVID-19. These measures are vital to ensure the best possible outcome for our community, our state and our country.

On March 17th, Dr. Amy Acton signed the “Director’s Order for the Management of Non-essential Surgeries and Procedures throughout Ohio”. As a result of this order, the Ohio State Dental Board released the following statement: “Based on this order, the OSDB stresses the importance for all dental practitioners to defer all non-essential & elective procedures with immediate effect. Only patients that need emergency dental services should be seen and treated. The order seeks to preserve the availability of PPEs at this critical period and to prevent inadvertent spread of the coronavirus. Dentists should also remember that they are highly vulnerable to the coronavirus due to the aerosol created from dental procedures. We strongly advise all dentists and dental office personnel to practice utmost caution and be prudent in their selection of emergency cases that need care.”

While we do not consider the treatment in our office to be “elective”, in many cases we are able to delay non-emergent procedures and manage patients with medication until treatment is possible. For these reasons, we have decided to close our office through April 3rd. If you have an appointment scheduled during this time, you will be receiving a call from our office to reschedule. If you feel you have a dental emergency, we will review your case over the phone to determine if you should be seen in person on a case-by-case basis.

We are still available to patients and referring doctors during this time by phone. If it is determined that you do require emergent treatment in our office, it is important that you understand you are receiving dental care during the events of a COVID-19 National Emergency. Please be advised that there may be risks in being in the proximity of dentists, patients or staff. We are taking every precaution to limit the spread of disease, yet there is still a possibility of transmission.

Please be patient with us as we navigate this uncharted territory. This was a difficult decision which was not made lightly, but with the best interests of all of our patients and staff in mind. Our goal is to serve you in the safest way possible and we will make every effort to do so.

We will continue to follow the direction of our state and local health departments, and promise to keep you informed as the situation develops.

With Gratitude,

Dr. Emily Lammers and Dr. Kristy Bultema
